User interview – Adrian

As one of the top students in my department, Adrian is always famous for his strong professional capability and confidence in the group. As he already worked for several years in the design industry, I did a short interview with him for some advice for job seeking as an experienced designer.

Me: How many years have you been working as a graphic designer?

Adrian: I’ve been working more that 6 years as a graphic designer.

Me: Why do you studying interaction design at Monash now?
Adrian: To be honest, I’m seeking for a turning point in my career as an UX designer. I think nowadays it’s too easy to become a graphic designer. (pointed around MADA building) You see, everybody in this room could be a graphic designer. And that’s why there’s already too much competition in this industry.

Me: I totally understand you… So for the students who are still new to the workforce and still not very familiar with the industry, do you have any advice for us?

Adrian: I recall when I first start my job, I worked in an institution doing printing design and I realized there’s some professional rules of typography I didn’t learn at school at all. But I feel very lucky to have a nice colleague who taught me a lot of these things and showed me what to do. So I think it really do a lot of help to have a mentor when you try to enter the industry.

Based on the user research I did for now I created this two little drawing of characters for the personas and journey map later.
